USB Cable pin configuration

| Pin | Function | Pin | Function |
| 1 | +5 Volts | 2 | Data - |
| 3 | Data + | 4 | Ground |
The USB cable is typically shielded in three layers. A basic shielding material covers the four internal wires. A copper mesh jacket then covers the shielding, which in turn is sleeved in a PVC wrap to protect the copper.
The Data+ and Data- wires are in a twisted pair arrangement within the cable. These two wires are usually 28AWG lines. The +5V and GND are not twisted within the sleeves, but are run parallel to the twisted pair data lines.
